Unique on Joy Harjo

Joy Harjo was born on May 9, 1951 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is known to be a musician, poet, and author. Harjo has played alto saxophone with a band called Poetic Justice, and has also edited literary journals and written screenplays. Her books include In Mad Love and War, The Woman Who Fell From The Sky, and The Spiral of Memory. She’s a member of the Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma and is of Cherokee descent. She is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa.
